Independent Project, 2017
Independent Project Artist Statement, 2017
For this independent project I focused on photos that showed my improvement from last semester to now. Successes from this project were my use of angles in my photographs and depth of field. Some challenges with this project was posting too many photos of the same scene. I need to choose which photo is my strongest.
Inspirational Quotes Project, 2017
Inspirational Quotes Project Artist Statement, 2017
For our inspirational quotes project we had to add quotes that related to for photos. What I though was successful about this project was that I really liked the first three photos that I took. The one of the wave splashing, the one of the two chairs, and the one of the sunset. What I also thought was successful about this project was use of photoshop to add text and to adjust the size and type of font for each photo and changing the saturation to the photo of the girl reflected in the puddle. Challenges I had with this photo was the dark colors in the photo of the reflection. Compared to all my other photos in this project this photo was so gloomy and the colors and lighting was bright and cheery.
Postcard Project, 2017
Postcard Project Artist Statement, 2017
For our new photography project we needed to to create 4 of our own postcards to show parts of Colorado that aren't typically shown through regular postcards. I choose to base all my postcards around the mountains and skiing. I spend a lot of time skiing and I wanted to share parts of the mountain at different heights and the skiing that not everyone gets to see. The biggest challenge of this project was choosing which photographs to include out of all the ones from my contact sheet. Also finding and adding the Mary Jane logo to the photo of my ski coach. None of the other logos for Mary Jane could be blown up in photoshop and not being super grainy. Some successes were the angles of my photos and I think my photos as landscape photos turned out good.

Photo Challenge Project, 2017
Photo Collage Artist Statement, 2017
For our photo collage project some of the student took an art walk around Santa Fe Art District and downtown Denver. To put together my photo collage I cropped and pasted different pieces from several photos that I took of one mural in Santa Fe. I pasted the photos in different square shapes in random places like the artist David Hockney creates his photo collages. What I found to be most challenging was where to place photos and what should be cropped out and what should be included. I think a success from this project was the photos that were added to the body of the women in the painting and the photos added to the space around her. There's different lighting in each photo which helps add that contrast.
Magazine Cover Project, 2017
Magazine Cover Project Artist Statement, 2017
For our project we had to use one of our own portraits and research an issue of a magazine that our portrait would be on the cover of. I choose the magazine "Marie Claire" because I felt that the position my model was sitting in was the most similar to the way the Marie Claire models are posed. Also article intros that I used for the cover were based off other covers of Marie Claire that I looked up like celebrities, hair and styles guides, and weight lose tips. The challenges were figuring out how to work photoshop and which portrait to use. Overall I think the successes were using multiple texts, fonts, and styles for writing on the cover.
Face of GW Project, 2017
Audrey Willius
This is Audrey’s freshman year here at George and she says that choosing this as her high school has helped her become more mature and has given her the chance to get to know more people and that that’s something that’s influenced who is today. I asked Audrey, how has your experiences been with meeting new people? Her response was, that it’s been good and that her best experience has been taking part in the theatre club and that’s been really wonderful. She simply enjoys just being able to be there and being able to act.

Daniel Garcia
When I asked Daniel how has GW impacted you he responded with, that the classes here challenge you and the teachers assign enough work to better understand what your limits are and what you can and can’t do. He also says the benefit with this is it creates trust between you and your teacher.

Cecilia Schonewise
Cecilia started out in the pre-ib program her freshman year before making a switch to AP. She says that getting good exposure to what both programs are like has had a big impact on who she is today. Cecilia’s stuck with AP since and says it’s just more “laid back.” The problem she highlighted about her experience about pre-ib is there was just a lot of pressure to be something and that pressure is simply non-existent in AP.

Anna Heimel
Anna would describe herself as eccentric, deep thinking, spiritual and fun loving. And the best part is that by meeting friends here at George Washington has has given her the opportunity to be all these at school and really feel like she can be who she is. She talked to me about how her friends bring out her vibrant personality and that she feels like she truly can express herself.

Alyssa
Allyssa is currently attending her first year here at George Washington. At her previous school, Alyssa spent so much time after school playing sports that her mom made her make the switch to George. She loves rugby but she wishes there was a female team here that she could play on. Without a school team it makes it more difficult because then you have to resort to club teams. There is a boys team at George that teams up with another school but she still believes that with a school girl's team would bring positive benefits.

Our faces of GW project focused on the portrait taking skill and 10 rules of composition that we learned in class. We had to take a respectable photo of 10 students and GW and get to know about them to write and capture their story. I researched different artists such as Mario Testino, Steven Meisel, Cindy Sherman, and Sally Man. That artist that most influenced me was Mario Testino. He had high contrast, filled the frame and didn't have a lot of negative space. And part of my style was influenced by his work. I try to fill the frame and focus all on the person face and have light in their eyes. The challenges about this project was focusing light in the persons eyes and getting the courage to go up to someone we didn't know and ask them questions and ask them if we could take their photo. The successes of this project were finding places in the school where there's good lighting that wasn't in the studio.
Photo Documentary Project: Women's March, 2017

Photo Documentary Project Women's March Artist Statement, 2017
Photo documentary is used to tell a story of events that take place usually over a series of time and is about either a group of people or a certain place. For my photo documentary project I captured the Woman's March on Denver that took place in downtown where an estimated 100,000 people showed up to fight for women's rights. Being able to not only document but also to be able to take place in such a historical moment was amazing. What I found challenging about taking these photos was keeping the camera steady enough so photos weren't too blurry which was was difficult especially when I was walking in the march. What was also a challenge was finding the right angles and over exposure. What was a success was being able to focus on the signs that were at the march.
Macro Photography, 2017

Macro photography is taking photos of small objects to make them look big and to bring detail to life. For our macro photography project my two best photos that I took were off the snow on a pine tree and the frost on someones car. Some successes of the project were finding small details outside like leaves on a bush or a flower or snow. What was most challenging about this project is keeping the camera in focus while being so close to something and also cropping the final photos to make the small details appear even bigger. What I also was successful, was the use of depth of field and rule of thirds especially when the main focus was something like a pine cone or a leaf.

To create my photos for my light painting project I set my camera to a long expose and a 5 F stop with an ISO of 100. My theme for this project was about the skiier and film maker Warren Miller and his life. The successes to this project were being able to create different photos with different colors and the challenges were having the right amount of exposue and lots of redrawing.

Our time and motion project focused on using rules of composition to our motion blur photos and freeze frame photos. My motion blur photos were taken by having a moving subject and adjusting the camera to a long exposure. My freeze frame photos were taken of a friend of mine while she was practicing her volleyball serve which was probably most challenging because it was difficult to have a clear focus point while they're in motion.
Egg Project: Sublime Egg, 2016
Egg Photography Project: Contact Sheet, 2016
Composition Project, 2016
Composition Project Artist Statement, 2016
Our most recent project was to take 4 photos using eggs to create 2 sublime photos and 2 creative photos with what we've learned in class so far. For my sublime photos I used a warm, gold light for setting the mood and high contrast shadows which was inspired to me by the artist we studied, Joesuf Sudek. And for my creative egg photos I tried to draw a scared face on the egg to show the egg was afraid of being breakfast at IHOP. But the most difficult part of this project was finding or creating the best lighting. In the end, what was successful was creating those high contrast shadows.
My project was to take 10 photos using various rules and techniques that we've learned so far. Originally my theme was purity or something that had to do with nature but I already spend most of my time taking photos of trees and flowers so I decided to step outside of my box and go with destruction or broken. Several of my photos are physical broken objects (like my phone) but also land. I biked to a construction site where they're building a new town center and looked for things such as trash or dug up land. I was inspired by Ansel Adams to take a photo of open land. Something not close up and doesn't have a really distinct focal point. The focus point is the land itself. Or in one instance a bright flower growing somewhere dull and colorless. Along with the physical form of destruction also the emotional feeling of broken. I asked my friend to help me out and I staged the scene so that the bricks she's leaning on were used as leading line and my inspiration was Steve McCurry and really have her face very clear to see. Overall, my art portrays what I picture when I think of something broken or destroyed in various ways.
